"The need for a new Chairman of the Ottershaw Society"

It is no secret that I have wanted to stand down as Chairman for some time. In order to emphasise that, I shall be standing down at the 2007 AGM next September. We badly need a new person to come on to the Committee and get the feel of being my deputy with a view to an orderly transition next year. I have been out and about in the village canvassing for likely candidates to replace me and it seems to be the case that some people believe that the job involves too much work.
Frankly this is nonsense, and the reason for saying that is that there is tremendous support from others on the committee.Perhaps the following very brief comments will help any prospective candidate
For example, Hannah Lane has become over the last 25 years our planning expert; single-handedly, she keeps tabs on all housing development and Green Belt issues which affect us, she attends all the key meetings with RBC and other Societies on such matters. She does all of our secretarial work and OttSoc Committee meetings admin, of which there are now only six a year. Then there is Roger Pashley's input as our treasurer, not just on the accounts but in new membership admin and the AGM documents for the Charity Commissioners, who act as the watchdog as it were on our financial transparency.
Others on our Committee are individually responsible for their own portfolio including Fairoaks, Motorways, local traffic issues, Media distribution, Publicity and so on. They are experienced and collectively we have an excellent network of community contacts.

It is a rewarding job for the Chairman to lead our Society from the front, to represent us, publicly as required, to exercise common sense and proportion in community issues, and all important to have a sense of humour and understanding in working effectively with others.

If you feel you would like to talk to me further about the job, or have someone in mind living preferably in the village, or at least near Ottershaw, call me on 01932 872136

Thanks Reg Taylor
